Always Look Up!

Early Sunday Mornings is my favorite time for slipping out of the house and walking around the corner to a nearby pond. This morning I was out in time to see day break through the night and hear Mother Nature as she began to awake.
As I have said before, morning light is the most kind when shooting nature. Just as she begins trickling herself over the area. The water, the foliage, the animals, they all take on a fresh warm feeling.

Quietly I walk through the small woods and listen for the sounds of whatever birds will present themselves to me. Of course there is always the Common Moorhen or Anhinga perched in a low hanging branch over the water but I am looking for something spectacular. I can hear the sound of woodpeckers but have yet to spot them. Then a couple of Mocking Birds begin the chase and in the distance I can see a Great Blue Heron resting atop a tall pine tree.

I wait and wait until I have decided that I have possible picked the wrong location this morning and start to find my way out of the group of trees and for some reason looked up above my head. There I spot the biggest, the darkest colored Red Tailed Hawk I have ever seen. Unfortunately it was still rather dark in the woods and my morning light had not shown herself upon him. So the best I could do was fire away. I had to crop to some great detail here and adjust the exposure in order to see him. In an instance he flew but of course not in a clearing to enable me to capture his wide wing span. So, I leave knowing that I still had the pleasure of gracing his company even if for a minute.
